I have a Tiffen low profile circular polarizer, and it was always a challenge to remove from my standard zoom lens. I recently bought a wide angle lens with the same 77mm thread to take on a Trip Out West(TM). When I tried the polarizer on my brand new lens… how to describe it… Well, they pretty much bonded instantly at the atomic level. I tried every trick in the book. Trying to pry it off myself, trying a rubber band and trying to pry it off. I handed it to a passerby who assumed I was a weakling and let him to pry it off. I took it to the camera store (where they said “Boy thats on tight, I hate it when that happens. By the way we have a sale on prints this week”). I took it to the hardware store (where they wisely wouldn’t dare touch it or even suggest any heavy-handed options). I was contemplating my glass cutter/hammer options, but decided on a whim to give this gadget a shot. And low and behold, it worked!

Make no mistake, these filter wrenches are exactly what they look like… thin, ring shaped hunks of plastic. They probably weigh less than a typical lens cap. But unlike the rubber band (which usually works) or can rubber jar openers, these wrenches have TEETH on the inner edge. The teeth gave me the added leverage needed to get the polarizer off.

Definitely worth the price!

(ps: Kudos to Adorama for prompt shipping…. got this gadget just in time before the big “Trip Out West” :) )
